Introducing – John and Mary-Anne Curran as members of the Parish Pastoral Council
John and Mary-Anne (nee McManus) Curran were born in 1956 and 1963 in Sydney and Queanbeyan into Catholic families. They first met at Irish language classes and got to know each other better (courtesy of a friend and some poiteen) at the 2007 Irish Language School.
Mary-Anne moved from her mother’s home in Canberra to Sydney in March 2007. They were married in March 2008, unusually the ceremony was performed bi-lingually in both Irish and English.
After they both ran out of work, they made the big move from their flat in Sydney, to Bungendore in 2016.
Fortune smiled on them, buying a home in Bungendore at the beginning of 2017, and they now live in walking distance to the centre of town.
Mary-Anne has carried on her work as a Catechist (trained in Sydney) in Bungendore.
Mary-Anne’s work in her previous life was as a medical typist, a skill which has served her well, in producing St Mary’s bulletin. She is very interested in building her family tree, she also enjoys playing her button accordion and enjoys greatly her sister Carol-Jayne’s (aka CJ) company, who is dancing in the foot steps of her champion Irish dancing sister.
John’s work in a previous life was as an electrical project engineer in a wide variety of industries (with a couple of years in the middle as an IT Administrator). He now helps provide content for St Mary’s website. He is eclectic in his enjoyment of music and enjoys practicing the Irish flute. He enjoys time spent, accompanied by Mary-Anne, learning foreign languages .
