We are proud of our history with continuous service to the catholic and local community for over 150 years. Our church has a long history in the “Northern Mission” of the Queanbeyan Diocese with it’s foundation stone laid on 25 May 1851, with the parish hall commencing operation as a school hall.
The hall having been used for marriages as early as 1861 due to the delay in construction of the church due to the drain of local people to the Victorian gold fields in the 1850’s. The church being completed in the early 1860’s.
St Mary McKillop also known as Mary of the Cross (Australia’s first canonised saint) first visited Bungendore and the school children in the hall in April 1899. Mary Mackillop established a large number of schools in the Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese, visiting Bungendore 4 times on her way to visit these schools.
‘Let no obstacle deter us from proceeding with courage’. Remembering – ‘There where you
are you will find God.’
Our mission is to meet the spiritual, sacramental, pastoral and social needs of the Northern Mission faith communities.
